Weekly Wanderings: March 22, 2026

A small seaplane lands on water, gray skies and mountains in the background

I am just back from eleven days in Vancouver—first at the Association for Asian Studies Annual Conference, then on a vacation with two friends. During my time at the conference I rarely strayed more than a block from the Vancouver Convention Centre, but that was hardly a hardship. While most convention centers are dim, bland, and soulless, Vancouver’s is airy and full of light, thanks to its primarily glass exterior. It also sits on the best location of any convention center I’ve seen, perched at the edge of Vancouver Harbour with views of mountains in the distance. Even on overcast days, the combination of water, sky, and peaks had me grabbing for my phone to take more pictures.

I’ll be back next Sunday with my usual assortment of links and such. For now, just a few of the many dozens of harbor photos I snapped while working at the conference.
